What is an idle timeout?

An idle timeout is how long a sandbox can sit unused before the provider stops it. It saves you from paying for a sandbox that nobody is using.

How it works

The provider watches for activity, such as running commands or network traffic. When there is none for the set time, it stops or pauses the sandbox.

Why it matters

A short idle timeout lowers the bill. It also means the next request may wait for the sandbox to start again. Some providers let you change the timeout or turn it off.
