What is a session?

A session is one continuous run of a sandbox, from start to stop. Many providers set a maximum session length, after which they stop the sandbox.

Maximum session length

The session limit is the longest time one sandbox may run without a stop. Some providers set it per plan. Some have no limit.

What happens at the limit

The provider stops the sandbox. With pause and resume or a snapshot you can start again from the saved state. Without them the work in the sandbox is gone.
